More Than a Renovation
My name is James Fyfe. I'm the owner and operator of Blu-Tect Construction. Over 20 years of domestic renovations across South Wales, and a background in plant engineering that led me into embedded systems and smart-home technology. Blu-Tect is where those two worlds meet — the building work and the intelligence behind it.
My Background
From plant engineering to home technology
I started out in plant engineering. I gained qualifications and experience in plant engineering and electronic control systems. From there I moved into domestic renovations and I've been doing it for over 20 years. Countless completed renovations across South Wales, covering everything from kitchens and bathrooms to structural repairs, roofing, plastering, landscaping and outdoor buildings.
Alongside the building work I developed a long-standing interest in embedded systems and home automation. I've been building single-board computing systems as a hobby for years, making working smart-home setups for friends and family. Over time those two skill sets merged, and Blu-Tect is the result.
Why I Do It
Homes that work better
I've been in a lot of homes over the years. The biggest lesson isn't about construction, it's about people. A good renovation isn't just measured by straight walls or neat joints. It's measured by how the customer feels throughout the process. Turning up when you say you will. Keeping the site clean. Solving problems before they become someone else's problem. Respecting that you're working in somebody's home, not on a building site.
I believe technology should support the home, not dominate it. When intelligent systems are considered from the beginning, they become almost invisible. The result isn't a house filled with technology. It's a home that simply works better.
How I Work
One person, one project
Blu-Tect is a sole trader operation. That means when you deal with Blu-Tect, you're dealing with me. The person discussing the work with you is the same person planning it, building it and standing behind the finished result.
Where certified work is needed that I'm not yet qualified for, I bring in trusted specialists and oversee it directly. I'm not the biggest company and I don't intend to be. The aim is to build a reputation for doing the job properly, every time.
Based in South Wales
Vale of Glamorgan and beyond
I'm based in the Vale of Glamorgan, working primarily throughout Cardiff, the Vale and the surrounding areas. For specialist projects I'm happy to travel anywhere in the UK, provided travel and accommodation are built into the project from the start.
I believe good workmanship shouldn't be limited by a postcode.
